Description
Most ball launchers are sized around medium-large dogs — the hopper sits too high for a small mouth to drop the ball comfortably, the launch arc is too steep for short legs to track, and there's no safety logic for a curious small dog who decides to investigate the firing port. This one is built around the small/medium-dog case: 2"/5 cm mini balls (not standard tennis balls), an infrared motion sensor that pauses the launch when a body crosses the firing path, and a lower hopper that dogs don't have to neck-stretch to reach.
USB-C rechargeable Li-ion battery, three launch distances (10 ft / 20 ft / 30 ft, ~3 / 6 / 9 m) switched via a button on top.
What's included
- 1 × ball launcher unit (10.8" / 27 cm L × 10.1" / 26 cm W × 8.4" / 21 cm H)
- 6 × mini tennis balls (~2" / 5 cm — small-mouth size)
- 1 × USB-C charging cable
- 1 × user manual
How the motion sensor changes play
The infrared sensor on the front face detects movement within the firing path and pauses the launch until the area clears. In practice this means small dogs who treat the launcher as prey rather than as the source of prey — most of them, on first encounter — don't catch a ball to the face while they're still figuring out the rhythm. Combined with the lower hopper, small dogs that gave up on bigger launchers (Pugs, Jack Russells, Corgis, Dachshunds) usually settle into the drop-and-launch loop within one or two sessions.
Materials and build
- Body: ABS plastic shell, four colorways (Yellow, Blue, Orange, Green)
- Battery: rechargeable Li-ion, Type-C charging — full-charge run-time depends on launch distance setting
- Sensor: infrared motion detection on the front face; pauses launch if a dog (or person, or another dog) is in the path
- Base: rubberized anti-slip ring
- Ball compatibility: 2" / 5 cm mini tennis balls only — standard 2.6" / 6.5 cm tennis balls will not fit the chute
When this isn't the right launcher
Skip this if your dog comfortably handles full-size tennis balls — the 2" chute won't accept them, and the launcher's body is built around small-mouth ergonomics. For medium-large dogs that just want a longer-running rechargeable unit, the Rechargeable Automatic Dog Ball Launcher uses the same mini-ball spec but with a 1500mAh battery and bigger body. And if you need to run sessions where USB charging isn't practical (camping, beach, all-day yard play), the Dual-Power Dog Ball Launcher runs on AC plug or 6× C batteries.
Care
Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth — don't submerge or rinse, the launch motor and sensor aren't sealed. Replace damaged or wet balls before reloading. Charge fully every 4–6 weeks during off-seasons to keep the battery healthy.
