Cowboy Rider Dog Costume with Saddle and Plush Rider

Most "rider" costumes run the same trick: a plush doll bolted to a bib that hangs off the dog's chest. It photographs from exactly one angle, and the dog spends the evening walking into the doll's legs. This one is built the other way round. The rider sits on a saddle that lies across the back, behind the shoulders, and the dog's own head stays out in front — nothing over the face, nothing across the eyes.

It goes on in about ten seconds: the rope loops over the chest like reins, two hook-and-loop straps close under the belly, and the saddle settles flat. Packed weight runs 90 g at S to 130 g at XL.

The side is the angle

Because the saddle sits behind the shoulders rather than across the chest, the silhouette only reads as "dog carrying a rider" from the side. Head-on you mostly see the dog's face with brown plush behind it — the reverse of a chest-mounted costume. If you are filming, walk alongside at shoulder height rather than backing up in front. The rider's legs and boots hang loose down each side instead of being stitched flat, and the hat lifts off the raised hand if you would rather sit it on the doll's head.

Sizing — measure first

Measure the chest at its widest point behind the front legs. That is the measurement that decides the fit; the belly straps do the holding.

When this isn't the right costume

Skip it if your dog objects to anything resting on the back; tightening the straps does not fix that. Skip it if the costume needs to read from the front in a group shot — a chest-mounted design like the Halloween Doll Dog Costume is built for that angle instead.

Care

Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. The rider is stuffed and holds water, so keep the piece out of the machine. Air dry flat, away from direct heat, which mats the plush. Store flat rather than folded over the saddle.
