This one is a thicker mat — 20D high-density foam under cool-touch waffle fabric — paired with a raised L-shape bolster pillow at one corner so dogs and cats can rest their head and shoulders without flattening the surface.

The bolster is a removable monster-face pillow with two googly eyes and four little plush feet around the back, sewn so it stays in place but unzips for washing. Sizing — measure first

Measure your pet's full sleeping length (nose to base of tail). Pick the size where the mat is at least 5 cm longer than that — the bolster takes up roughly 8 cm at the head end, so add a little buffer. See the size chart image in the gallery.

• S (45 × 35 cm / 17.7 × 13.8 in): pets up to 5.5 lb / 2.5 kg — Chihuahua, mini Yorkie, kitten.
• M (55 × 40 cm / 21.7 × 15.7 in): pets up to 13 lb / 6 kg — Bichon, Pomeranian, mini Poodle, adult cat.
• L (65 × 50 cm / 25.6 × 19.7 in): pets up to 22 lb / 10 kg — Cavalier, French Bulldog, larger cat.
• XL (80 × 60 cm / 31.5 × 23.6 in): pets up to 44 lb / 20 kg — Beagle, mid-size mixed breed, Border Collie.

Between sizes, size up — pets sprawl in summer and a tight mat means a leg always hangs off the edge.

When this isn't the right cooling mat

Skip this if your pet prefers a fully-enclosed nest — a flat mat with one corner bolster doesn't offer the wraparound feeling some anxious dogs and cats need.
